FURTHER COMMERCIAL SUPPORTING ROLES

‘Open Book Accounting’ Cost Auditing

Certain clients selecting to use specific forms of contract, including framework and bespoke construction agreements, based upon an ‘open book’ accounting and payment principles generally require an independent cost audit to conform with their own internal audit and accountability procedures and provide transparency of costs claimed. We specialise in this and have undertaken many commercial audits required to satisfy the Defined Cost principle under NEC EEC Contract conditions.

Insolvency Advice

We have experience of advising clients on complex insolvency cases, including providing valuations and forecasts for completed and incomplete works and the necessary project management skills to ensure unfinished works are successfully completed, guaranteeing full recovery of the costs incurred in completing the project, including but not limited to the following:
  • Securing the works following termination of the contracts and associated cost.
  • The calculation of additional professional fees and abortive costs.
  • The preparation of final accounts for all works either complete or partially complete.
  • Tendering and management of contractors commissioned to complete outstanding works.
  • Rectification of defects in completed works, following insolvency of the contractor and administration of retentions held.
In cases of insolvency it is necessary to make sure that all information is detailed and documented in a clear and transparent manner, assisting the administration of accounts and ensuring the necessary liaison and negotiation with third parties and insolvency practitioners is straightforward and agreements / settlements reached in a timely manner.

Independent Project Review

Using both our project and commercial management experience in conjunction with our dispute avoidance/resolution skills we are able to provide an independent project review. The aim of this review is to investigate the possibility of ‘turning round’ projects by assisting clients in the identification of additional entitlement, limiting financial exposure, or the enhancement of financial recovery.

Insurance Works

We have experience of advising clients on complex insurance cases, including the provision of cost plans, estimates and forecasts for the rectification of works and agreement of such with loss adjusters and insurance practitioners.
